                      More birds of prey

There are about 500 species of birds of prey, including eagles,
 hawks, buzzards, harriers, kites, falcons and vultures . All
 these birds hunt during the day and rest at night. The only
 nocturnal birds of prey are the owls.

The black-legged falconet and the Bornean falconet, of southeast Asia, both have average length of 14-15 centimeters. They feed on small birds and insects

 * WHAT DOES AN OSPREY EAT ?

Ospreys shares a small fish in their nest,
which is made of a heap of sticks and seaweed
The osprey feed mostly on fish. When it sees something near the surface, it dives down toward the water and seizes the fish in its feet. The soles of its feet are covered with small spines to help it hold on the slippery fish.

The biggest eagle in the world is Steller's Sea Eagle which weighs 5-9 kg and has a wing - span of 2.2 - 2.45 m. Although it breeds mainly in Russia it has also been located in Korea and japan and mainly preys on fish and water birds.

but it has a ruff of white feather around
its neck.

*WHICH IS THE BIGGEST BIRDS OF PREY ?


The Andean condor is the biggest birds of prey in the world. It measure up to 110 centimeters long and weighs up t 12 kilograms. Its huge wingspan is over 3 meter across.

* HOW DO EAGLES KILL THEIR PREY ?

An eagle kill with the four long, curved claws on each of its feet. It drops down on to its prey, seizes it in its long talons and crushes it to death. The eagle then tears the flesh apart with its strong hooked beak.
